SICS provides loan copies of music for concerts to any member who does not already have – or wish to purchase – his/her own music.
Loan copies are signed out by the librarians at the beginning of a rehearsal cycle.
Loan copies should only be annotated in soft pencil – taking care to mark only where really necessary. (Please don’t use the scores as a diary for SICS events.) These marks should be rubbed out before return – unless the music has to be collected on the night of the concert.
This music is borrowed by SICS from libraries or other musical organisations. It must be returned to them within a few weeks after the concert date.
There is a cost to SICS for the loan and delivery of music. This cost is accounted for in the annual membership fee.
The cost of replacing music which is not returned must be met by the individual borrower.
SICS also loans a black folder for concert performances which is retained by the member until he/she no longer wishes to be a member of SICS.
When SICS is still in session after a concert, members taking part in the concert should return the music at the next rehearsal – and no later than the second.
If an individual is not able to return the music within this timescale, the music should be given to the librarian on the night of the concert.
The music may be collected on the night of a concert – where there is a long break before the next rehearsal cycle begins (e.g. after a summer term concert).
If a member withdraws from SICS – or from a particular concert – the member is responsible for returning the music in a timely way – I.e. before the date of the concert.
Music should be returned to a librarian or a section rep at rehearsal where the individual knows they will not be returning.
Where an individual has the borrowed music at home, the individual is responsible for returning it – either via another member of SICS – or to the librarian’s home.
Any problems with returning the music should be notified to the librarian who will arrange collection.
